Fats and The Artisan Bakery

Monday, February 15th, 2010

I wanted to pass on some cool information.  Erin and Trevor at the Artisan Bakery have offered to provide Paleo breakfast and lunch food.  Several of you have already found this out.  As a matter of fact, Erin made the Paleo quiche for the pot luck at Paul and Lavonne’s last night.  They can customize what you want, or they have already experimented for a few of our folks and have some standard fare that is delicious and tasty.  Go by and give them a whirl.  Pretty cool that in our little town we have this great resource…people willing to help.  Just another reason we all live here.

Here is a link for  a good overview of FATS. Check this out and see how you’re doing.  You are likely to learn a few new foods.

Today’s workout:

Benchpress:  5-5-5

Snatch balance: 3-3-3-3

IMG_1720.JPGThanks to Paul and LaVonne for hosting our Paleo potluck dinner last night.  We had lots of flavorful dishes prepared by everyone.  If you didn’t attend, make sure to get recipe’s of the yummy meals you didn’t get to try.  If you did attend, please post your recipe’s under our Nutrition post at the News and Events section.

Also last night, we were discussing “fun running events.”  Several of us are signed up for this one at the 11am heat  in August.  Let’s take a crew.  Get signed up now if you’re not already.

Another day in Paradise

Heard a funny one this morning.  “I was hoping to work on my snatch today because I’m going to get wood later.”

Speaking of snatch, check out the speed and mechanics in the video of these world class lifters.  It is all the more impressive after struggling to learn the lift.  Poetry in motion.

Today’s workout:

Press, 5-5-5;

Then, tabata pull ups, squats.

Delusions and Realism

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

I have liked Will Smith’s movies and heard about his work ethic from his start in music and television.  Watching the video is a short investment of time, but watch it if you have a few extra minutes.  Practice your skill.  Be better every day.  Do you recognize the delusional quality he discusses?  Are you realistic?

Check it out.

Today’s workout.

Five rounds for time:

10 power snatch, 20 kettlebell swings, 30 push ups, 10 sit ups.

T-shirts reduced price

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

We are going to sell the T-shirts to the folks at the gym for a little over cost at $20 per shirt. There is a bin with all the colors and sizes at the gym. Put your money along with your name in the envelope. Thanks!

Mid-week and time for some nutritional results.  Some are feeling a bit off and adjusting habits to not grab that “go-to” food in the event of hunger.  Breaking these habits has been easy for some and not so much for others.

Deciding what to eat and what is available to us is also a challenge for some of us.  We have many great resources right under out noses.  The recipes are being shared, funny stories being told, and some successes as well.  I have heard many interesting ideas from Khris, Angie, Pacie,  and Lisa to name a few.

Successes?  Here are a few results after one week for a few folks who have really committed to eating paleo foods: five pound weight loss and three inch loss; four pounds after losing 20 pounds since December 30.  The impressive thing about these two stories is that it all occurred by changing food choices. Our workouts have been the same mixture of fun and suck since….well, since we started.

Some of us are not looking for weight loss.  This is where your photo’s will come in handy.  Make sure you took pictures front, back, and side so you can compare at the end of the challenge.  This may be the only way to notice if you have gotten leaner.  Some of you may gain weight by adding lean muscle.  Pictures and the body mass test we did with Dr. Bojar will tell our story.

And performance?  We performed workouts and recorded our times and weights as a benchmark for progress.

And remember that during our six weeks, we are eating clean based on our challenge outline.  After the six weeks we can add some of the things we think we can’t live without.  We may find out when the challenge concludes that we enjoy a lot more foods than when we began this short journey.  However, I’m pretty sure I can’t live without dark chocolate…in another month or so.

Keep having fun and let us know how you are progressing.  Kill your Coward.

Great link on the main site today about hydration.  Check it out.
