Snatch

Yep. We’re working on our snatch today. First, a bit of teaching. Then a bit of snatching. Then a bit of conditioning. More fun to come this week.

A few words about the Olympic lifts. We don’t expect you to be greatly proficient at the Snatch and the Clean and Jerk, but we want you to understand why we want to do these lifts. These two lifts are the most athletic of the lifts and have been described by Coach Mike Burgener as gymnastics with a barbell. And we like that visual.

The Olympic lifts are about generating power, speed, and force, on a barbell with your hips. Try and remember that getting a bar overhead is less about your arms and more about your hips and you will become quicker and more powerful. And that’s just cool.

So, be one of the cool kids, and have fun learning and tweaking your performance by improving you Snatch and Clean and Jerk. Besides, it’s just fun to tell all your friends that you have a pretty Snatch.
