    Hey LisR,

Thanks for that link. Pacie and I have signed up for the Paleo Diet, and we have done a decent amount of reading on that. Beans are officially off the list for Paleo, which has been troublesome to us, especially given that we followed a raw foods diet for several months last year (maybe the year before?), ate lots of sprouts, and felt amazingly great. (we also did a decent amount of reading on the raw foods diet)

From what I have read, the reason the Paleo diet avoids bean is that they contain lectin, which wreaks havoc on the body chemistry. You can find details here: http://www.plantpoisonsandrottenstuff.info/content/toxins/essential-sugars-plant-lectins.aspx

I think that the bottom line on that is cooking/sprouting beans significantly reduces the lectin, but DOES NOT eliminate it. I have not found anything definitive enough to convince me one way or the other on the bean – there are huge and well-documented benefits to sprouting. My only hesitation is the lectin trade-off, but maybe this is insignificant compared to the benefits?

I think that all depends on why you are eating Paleo. Performance…weight loss…just to feel better? My body feels good after eating them and I digest them well. I think it would give you more options for healthy tasty nutritious foods. I’m not a big fan of eliminating foods from my diet completely. I think moderation and proper portions are the key…and making it easy to follow.
