Rest and Reflect

?”Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
-Mark Twain

Did you get it done today or did you blame your woes on someone else? Did you get it done today or did you put it off until tomorrow? Did you get it done today or did you plan your next adventure or achievement? And while you’re thinking about it…what is IT?

Determine your IT. Make IT happen. Or not. Either way, the choice is yours. As a matter of fact, not choosing could be your IT as well. As in the quote above…”Explore. Dream. Discover.”

If you’re looking for something to do, we have a few events that you may want to add to your list for completion.

Closest in time and distance is the Mt. Sneffells marathon and half marathon on August 13, 2011. The organizers added the marathon this year and have reached out to make this event bigger and better. If you thought about competing in this event, now could be your year.

Second is the second annual Uncompaghre Mesa Team Fitness Challenge outside of Montrose organized by the folks at CrossFit Agoge.  We had a few teams present at the inaugural event last year and it was such a blast that when we finished, all we kept hearing was, “lets do it again.”  Get your team of four together and let’s go have some fun.

And finally,  an October challenge for those looking a little further afield in time and distance.  Front Range CrossFit has organized the Colorado Open which is a CrossFit style competition during a weekend in August.  The slots are full for this years event, but for those who are over 35 years of age, for the first time, they are organizing a Masters event on October 15 and 16 in Denver.  Check it out and if you’re interested registration begins August 1.  Let us know and we’ll put together a program focusing our efforts for the competition which will help us excel and have an awesome time.

Did you get better today?  If you hear yourself saying things like, “I didn’t train enough to do that” or “I’m not ready this year because (it doesn’t really matter how you finish the sentence)”, or “I’m not really good at (fill in the blank) so I’m not doing it right now” consider this.  You had an excuse.  And probably not a good one.  You might as well say, “I’m not doing that because my dog is on fire.”

If this is the case, put your dog out and do something.  Quit making excuses and get in the ring.  Compete.  You may be competing with yourself and that could be your biggest victory of all.

So whether it is one of these events, making a change in the food you eat, being a better parent, or being better in your work or business, put your dog’s fire out and be better today.

Kill your Coward Within.

See you at the Park on Sunday, or in the gym Monday.
